Okavango Delta/Moremi Game Reserve/Maun

 Journey Through Okavango's Natural Wonders

About Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta conjures vivid imagery of graceful antelope sprinting through shimmering floodwaters, lions stalking vast herds of Cape buffalo, leopards lounging on tree branches while surveying their surroundings, and elephants wading through the water. However, the Delta encompasses much more than these scenes; it stands as one of the planet's most remarkable ecosystems, providing an unmatched opportunity for wildlife observation.

As the largest inland delta globally, the Okavango is nourished by waters flowing from Angola, which peak during the dry season in July and August. This seasonal flooding transforms the Delta from its arid, desert-like environment—situated in the heart of the Kalahari basin—into a lush oasis that sustains an incredible diversity of wildlife, avian species, and plant life, while also hosting some of Africa's most luxurious safari lodges.

The Delta comprises the Moremi Game Reserve, private concessions to the west, and The Panhandle, which represents the primary section of the Okavango River before its channels diverge. This discussion focuses on the private concessions and The Panhandle, highlighting the unique attributes of various camps and regions, thereby providing a clearer understanding of the myriad activities available in the Delta.

Things to do

Experience the remarkable interactions between lions and buffalo at Duba Plains, a spectacle that is seldom witnessed elsewhere in Africa. Alternatively, you can spend a leisurely afternoon in a mokoro canoe, guided through the serene waterways in search of the elusive fishing owl. At Abu Camp, immerse yourself in the presence of their elephant herd as you stroll through the bush alongside these majestic animals, while also observing herds of antelope, like the red lechwe, navigating the floodwaters—a truly breathtaking sight. Many camps now provide the opportunity for a helicopter tour over the Delta, offering a unique aerial perspective of the extensive network of channels and floodwaters. The Delta also presents excellent mobile safari options, allowing you to traverse from camp to camp or paddle in a canoe, with nights spent camping on islands under the stars, creating an unforgettable Botswana Okavango Delta adventure.
