YOUR ITINERARY
Day 1
Luangwa Valley
- Day 1 starts off with your arrival at Lusaka International Airport. Upon arrival in Zambia's capital city, you will be assisted with check-in for your connecting flight to Mfuwe Airport in South Luangwa. A representative from your accommodation facility will meet you at the airport and you will be transferred by road to the lodge. The beautiful eco-friendly Msandile River Lodge is located on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking a busy wildlife crossing point. The Luangwa River flows into the mighty Zambezi River with an annual discharge of over 22kms. You may spend the rest of the afternoon settling in and enjoy a delicious supper in the wilderness, taking in the sights and sounds of your first night in Zambia.
2-3
South Luangwa National Park
- For the next 2 days you will explore Luangwa Valley which has one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Southern Africa. The "walking safari" was made famous in this National Park and it is still the most captivating way to explore the landscape. Leaving the 4x4 game-drive vehicles, you set out on foot with your guide to walk among elephants, antelope, zebra and even the occasional predator while maintaining a safe and respectful distance from these magnificent animals. You will enjoy game drives, either in the morning or afternoon as well as night drives, an opportunity to enjoy the nocturnal creatures of the park long after the sun has set. The lodge and surrounding camps also offer a range of optional excursions such as hiking, visiting the Mfuwe Lodge to watch the elephants walk through the reception, mountain biking in the bush, birding safaris, canoeing, hiking and more. Another special experience in South Luangwa is watching the moon rise over the timeless African bush and its reflection on the Luangwa River. Your nights will end with romantically lit Boma dinners under the African night sky with that all-important G&T in hand.
4
Kafue National Park
- On day 4 you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport after breakfast for your charter flight to Kafue National Park by light aircraft. For fly-in guests, your lodge, Mukambi Safari Lodge has its own airstrip which is a 5-minute drive from the lodge. Centrally located in the park, the main lodge is locally known as “The Gateway to The Kafue National Park.” Built on the banks of the Kafue River, it was originally opened in 1993. Downstream of Lake Kariba the Kafue River, a major tributary originating in the north of Zambia, flows into the Zambezi River. The main entertainment area of Mukambi Safari Lodge consists of a thatched building with several decks overlooking the Kafue River, with an infinity pool, complemented by a pizza oven area next to it and even a floating deck on to the river. As an added extra there is a small library with board games available for rainy days. There is also a curio shop near the reception.
5-6
Kafue National Park
- For the next 2 days you will live in the company of the local wildlife which finds sanctuary around the lodge area including impalas, elephants, hippos, leopard, jackal and even a small pride of lions. Seamlessly fitting into the surrounding wilderness the lodge has been designed with nature in mind. Thatched ceilings keep the interiors cool and wooden decks overlook the rambling river. The acentric Kafue National Park is Zambia’s largest and oldest national park Spanning an area of 22400km. The park attained its national park status in the 1950s. A huge fraction of the national park still remains untouched, giving the rich wildlife, plant and bird species the room to flourish. Kafue National Park also derives its attraction and uniqueness from its size and the wild game that it holds. Here you will enjoy game drives, walking safaris, canoeing, birding and fishing safaris. After your game drive or fishing trip, cool down in the infinity pool while the hippos wallow in the river below or relax with a cold drink in hand in one of the lodge's lounge areas offering stunning panoramic views. Dinners will be served under the starry night sky and the nights will end with stunning Boma fires lighting up the African sky.
